PUZZLINGS

Made with segments of photocopies printed with black carbon toner on white or neon colored paper, and collaged onto vinyl or Tyvek paper. Some of the photocopies are shades of grey while others are printed from random materials placed on the glass of the copier, ranging from crumpled paper to a scrub brush. I use the enlargement and density features of the copy machine along with other techniques to affect the characteristics of the print. Images are cut and arranged intuitively until a figure emerges similar to how the magnetism of the machine pulls forth the carbon toner with the advent of light. They appear contiguous from afar, but the layering is apparent with closer inspection. This photocopy work fits into my practice, since 2003, of using carbon mediums and symmetry, the primary building blocks of life as we know it.
